2002 Annual Town Meeting authorizes a Library Space Needs Committee to outline needs, select an architect, and develop schematic designs.
2003 Completing the House Move project makes it feasible to expand on the current site. This project was funded entirely through private donations.
May 4, 2004 Annual Town Meeting unanimously accepts schematic design and votes approval to file a construction grant application and fund geotechnical studies.
July 7, 2005 Milton is awarded a $3.68 million dollar construction grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. (Press Release)
October 17, 2005 Unanimous Town Meeting funding vote to approve the project budget of $13,418,000, contingent on a debt exclusion override

Yes Vote!

Voter referendum approval of a debt exclusion override. Vote of 2980 to 1050. Approved in all 11 precincts. This vote secures the state grant.
2006 Solicitation of services of a Project Manager, and confirmation of Schwartz-Silver Architects as project architects. Design adjusted to increase affordability, simplicity and improve operations.
Early 2007 Preparation of construction documents and bid specifications.
June 1, 2007

Construction bids due.

Late June 2007 Main Library closes, East Milton Branch opens extended hours.
July 2007

Kidder Branch at 101 Blue Hills Parkway re-opens during construction.

Main Library Construction begins.

April 2, 2009

Newly renovated and expanded library OPENS.
