These tables are a part of Milton's history. The glass tops were the floors of the book stacks in the original 1904 Milton Public Library. These panels of glass framed in wrought iron supported the weight of people searching for books on the second or third floor of the original stacks for over a hundred years. Considered the modern technology of the day it was used by libraries built between 1900 and 1940, for example Canton, Attleboro, Norwood and Winchester. They are still in use at the Boston Atheneum. When the decision was made to demolish the 1958 addition and the stacks, some of the floor panels were saved for their historic value. The tables were designed and created by the Village Forge, Inc in Hyde Park, MA
